The Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu is the official Sports organ of the Govt.ofTamilnadu. Its role is to promote sports and physical fitness throughout the state, utilizing resources drawn from the Government , SportsAssociations , Sports minded Philanthropists , Institutions and anyone committed to Sports and physical fitness. In this endeavour ,the Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu focuses its attention on:-

FUNCTION

• Providing opportunities for talent identification.
• Develop identified talent to excellence at State, National and International levels.
• Bringing in a competition culture throughout the State in order to promote physical fitness, talent identification, competitiveness and brotherhood.
• Establishing sports infrastructure and encouraging the same in the private arena to suit a wide range of requirements – from community level sports meets to that of International competitions.
• To develop appropriate coaching methods through coaching clinics, workshops, courses in India and abroad so as to ensure that correct techniques are taught at the learning stage and appropriate techniques towards international performances are in line with research based advancements abroad.

SCHEME DETAILS 2017-18

Sports school / Hostel District level selection trials

Physical Efficiency tests are conducted Test in skills and technique of the game in team games and individual performance in individual events are conducted. The selected students are admitted in VII Std, VIII Std, IX Std. and in XI Std. Coaching is imparted by trained Coaches.

21 Days Non Residential Summer Camp

Every year Summer Coaching camps are conducted for 21 days in the District Headquarters for boys and girls below 16 years of age in Athletics, Basketball, Football, Hockey and Volleyball and other disciplines which are popular in the districts.

5 Days Non Residential Camp

Educational District Level coaching camp is conducted for the identified talents emerging from the World Beaters Talent Spotting Scheme for 5 days in educational district. Basic skills of various disciplines will be taught in these camps.Many number of boys and girls are benefited by this program

15 Days Residential Camp

The talented boys and girls from education district are selected and imparted training in the district level residential coaching camp conducted for 15 days. 30 boys and girls are benefited every year by this program.

District Level Disabled Sportsand TeamGames

In order to give confidence to the Differently Abled Persons, by participating them in sports and games and to develop competitive spirit among them, the Government has ordered to conduct the competitions at District Level and State Level both men and women for the year 2017 – 2018. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu is conducting State level competition in the following sports disciplines without any age restriction for the participants. 1. For Physically Challenged: (Men and Women) a) 50 Mts. Running. b) 100 Mts. Running. c) Long Jump d) Mini Basketball throw. e) Wheel Chair Race – 100 Mts. 2. For Visually Impaired: (Men and Women) a) 50 Mts. Running. b) 100 Mts. Running. c) Standing Broad Jump. d) Shot Put. e) Tennis Ball Throw. 3. Mentally Challenged: (Men and Women) a) 50 Mts. Running. b) 100 Mts. Running. c) Cricket Ball throw. d) Standing Broad Jump. e) Shot Put. 4. Hearing Impaired (Men and Women) a) 100 Mts. Running. b) 200 Mts. Running. c) Long Jump. d) Shot Put. e) Javelin Throw.

District Level Anna Cycle Race

Every year on the birth day of late Chief Minister Thiru C.N. Annadurai a cycle race is being conducted at all District Head quarters. Prizes and certificates are distributed to the winners and participants.

District Level Monthly Sports for the month of July,August,October 2017 and March 2018 .These Competitions are conducted in the month of July,August,October – 2017 and March 2018 in the Districts in Various disciplines viz.Athletics,Basketball,Football,Handball,Hockey,kabaddi,Kho-Kho,Swimming,and Volleyball.

DistrictLevel Carrom Competition

The Government have decided to elevate the status of Carrom with the vision of leading to Asian and Olympic games and decided to conduct Carrom competitions among the school children of Government Schools, Government aided Schools, Panchayat / Town Panchayat / Municipal schools and to award prizes to the winners. The competition will be conducted in two categories i.e. Juniors (Up to 5th Standard and 6th Standard to 12 Standard).

District Level C.M.Trophy for State Games

The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu during the department review meeting had directed to conduct First State Level Athletic Championship for Men and Women by giving prize money for the winners of the first three places ( 1st Prize Rs.1000/- 2nd Prize Rs.750/- 3rd Prize Rs.500/-) in each event, in order to further encourage and motivate competitive spirit among the athletes in Tamil Nadu. This championship will be named as “Chief Minister’s Trophy” for State Games. district level competition will be organized and the best 10 men athletes and 10 women athletes from each district will be selected to participate in the State Athletic championship. The Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu has also directed to conduct.The State Level competitions for Chief Minister’s Trophy for Men and Women in team games viz. Basketball, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi and Volleyball by giving high prize money to the winning teams, in order to further motivate and encourage competitive spirit among sports persons in Tamil Nadu. The prize money for first place winners is Rs.1.00 lakh each, 2nd Place winners Rs.75,000/- each and 3rd Place winners Rs.25,000/- each in Athletics and prize money for team events is first place winners Rs.1.00 lakh each, 2nd place winners Rs.75,000/- each, 3rd place winners Rs.25,000/- each,

District Level Civil Service Sports & Games

The Government have decided to encourage sports among the Government Servants to conduct the District and State level Civil Servants Sports meet commencing from 2011 in order to have a good healthy way of life and also to possess strong mental balance to accept defeat sportingly and to work hard to achieve and win in all spheres of official life conduct in Football, Volleyball , Basketball, Tennis , Table Tennis , Shuttle Badminton, Kabaddiand Athletics.

District Level Beach Games

The Government have decided to elevate the status of Beach Games in the 10 coastal Districts with the vision of leading to Asian and Olympic games and decided to conduct Beach Competition in Football, Volleyball and Kabaddiand prize Money for 1st Place winners Rs.500/- each 2nd Place Winners Rs.350/-each 3rd Place Winners Rs.200each. In order to further motivate and encourage competitive sprit among Sports persons in Coastal areas State level Beach Games competitions will be conducted and prize money 1st Place winners Rs.3,000/- each 2nd Place Winners Rs.2,000/-each 3rd Place Winners Rs.1,000/-each.
